Members of the public would take a stricter line on senior solicitors who err in their private lives than would solicitors themselves, research has suggested. The public would also be kinder to young lawyers, according to the findings from the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

National Accident Helpline (NAH) and seven personal injury law firms, including Irwin Mitchell, are launching an Ethical Marketing Charter today. NAH will administer the scheme and handle complaints about possible breaches.

The “unbalanced promotion of competition” in the legal services market “carries dangers” and puts ethical standards at risk, a major report based on a survey of 966 solicitors and barristers has concluded.
