Overview
Housing condition remains one of the fastest-moving and closely scrutinised areas of civil litigation. With Awaab’s Law now established, complaints to the Housing Ombudsman continuing to put the performance of social landlords under the spotlight, and regulators paying increasingly close attention to the conduct of high-volume consumer claims, there will be plenty to discuss when the Legal Futures Housing Condition Conference returns in April 2027.
Once again, we’ll bring together the different sides of the market – claimant and defendant lawyers, barristers, surveyors and other experts, funders and regulators – to tackle the practical issues affecting housing condition claims.
From the latest case law – at last, a High Court ruling on the meaning of fitness for human habitation – and the impact of Awaab’s Law to expert evidence, funding, costs and claims handling, the programme will focus on what practitioners need to know and what is changing on the ground.
There is also a bigger question hanging over the sector: where does housing disrepair litigation go next? Regulatory scrutiny of how claims are generated and handled is intensifying, while landlords remain under pressure to improve housing standards and respond more quickly when things go wrong.
Our 2027 conference will look beyond the individual claims to consider how the market is evolving – and what lawyers and everyone working alongside them need to do to prepare for what comes next.
