Data protection complaints procedure – time to act

Available from: 29/05/2026

With effect from 19 June 2026, all controllers will be required to have a procedure in place for handling data protection complaints. This is a completely new requirement which needs to be implemented as a matter of urgency.

In particular, controllers will need to give data subjects a way to complain directly and will need to have procedures in place about how they will investigate and respond to any such complaint.

This 30-minute webinar will review the guidance note produced by the ICO and will set out a series of practical steps that can be taken to ensure compliance.

Topics covered include:

  • Ways in which complaints can be made
  • Content of complaints procedure
  • Acknowledgement of complaints
  • Investigation of complaints
  • Provision of outcomes to the data subject
  • Records to be kept
