Making conveyancing ‘easy’ – Sir Stelios enters legal market

Haji-Ioannou: A more transparent and accelerated solution

The founder of easyJet has entered the legal world today with the launch of easyConveyance [1], a conveyancing comparison tool.

Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou said it was “time for the home buying process to be brought into the 21st century”.

His easyGroup has licensed the ‘easy’ name to Northern Irish businessman Connor McCann to launch the service, which compares conveyancing quotes online from over 200 firms of solicitors and licensed conveyancers across the UK.

It is using the platform provided by listed conveyancing technology business ULS Technology, which pays easyConveyance a “commission”, the website says.

Users are able to search by location, price and customer reviews, and instruct them online. There is a ‘no sale, no fee’ promise.

There are also email updates, online access to track a case 24/7 and a UK-based help desk open seven days a week

Sir Stelios said: “It’s time for the home buying process to be brought into the 21st century. easyConveyance will provide the latest technology and innovation required to deliver a more transparent and accelerated solution to the current slow and clumsy system in the UK.”

Steve Goodall, CEO of ULS, said: “We currently have a few parts of our industry doing positive things to help the home moving process to move on and into a more seamless, technology based environment: the government is becoming increasingly interested in this whole area as well.

“I therefore see it as poignant and appropriate for the easyGroup to be making this move at this timely juncture.”

A strategic decision taken during the easyJet floatation back in 2001 means ownership of the ‘easy’ brand is retained in Sir Stelios’s private investment vehicle, easyGroup.

As a result easyGroup said it “now enjoys a steady and predictable income from licensing the easy brand to many businesses, including the airline, in return for a royalty based on turnover.

“The easy brand has been extended and licensed to many other sectors – all dedicated to offering consumers more value for less.”

These include: easyHotel, which was also floated on the London Stock Exchange in 2014, easyBus, easyCar, easyProperty, easyOffice , easyFoodstore, easyCoffee, easyGym, easyPizza and easyDogwalking.

“Sir Stelios continues to look for carefully selected partners with whom to extend the brand,” the company said.
