| The Claims Futures conference took place on 22 October 2025 in Manchester. Attended by over 250 people, the conference addressed key issues affecting both personal injury firms and consumer claims firms, particularly in relation to financial mis-selling claims. Firms have been making the most of the opportunities to create tech-enabled practices that bring access to justice to large numbers of clients. The rewards are there for those who get it right, although we also examined how the Supreme Court ruling on motor finance and the FCA consultation on a redress scheme could affect law firms and CMCs. But not all have got it right. The number of PI law firms has shrunk by more than a third in just five years, while at least 15 significant consumer claims practices have gone under in recent times, owing more than £400m between them. It is no surprise that the sector is now under an SRA spotlight – it now has 89 live investigations into 73 law firms conducting high-volume claims work. We examined all of these issues at Claims Futures, which this year incorporated our long-running PI Futures conference. The morning’s sessions covered issues relevant for all claims firms – as we heard from both the SRA and FCA, among others – before we split into two tracks in the afternoon: one for personal injury and the other for financial mis-selling.
