National firm Weightmans LLP has strengthened its Compl-i team with the addition of Bhavni Shah, a highly experienced risk and compliance consultant.
Bhavni joins the firm’s London office after five years as an independent consultant to a wide range of legal practices (including private practices, in-house legal departments and not for profit organisations). Prior to this she worked at the Law Society and the Legal Services Commission developing their Quality Standards (Lexcel and the Specialist Quality Mark respectively).
As well as providing bespoke risk and compliance consultancy to lawyers, Bhavni has delivered numerous successful training courses, including subjects such as Lexcel and the SRA Handbook 2011. She remains the Law Society’s principal external Lexcel trainer, giving courses on the quality standard to practices (both private and in-house) and training aspiring assessors and consultants. In addition, she is instructed on behalf of the representative body to shadow Lexcel assessors as part of its on-going consistency programme.
Going forward, Bhavni plans to apply her knowledge and range of transferable skills to the further development of the Compl-i brand and Weightmans’ wider Legal Services Team, which fulfils the legal and regulatory needs of law firms.
Bhavni says: “I am absolutely thrilled to be joining Weightmans’ Compl-i team, in London. The current legal environment has a heavy dark cloud hanging over it, primarily due to the burden of managing risk and compliance. Navigating through the current quagmire and ensuring the longevity of a successful business is one of the biggest challenges faced by most legal services providers. Through Compl-i, Weightmans is in a strong position to provide a full service risk and compliance consultancy, helping to unravel the myriad of rules and regulations in a practical manner and provide the legal advice necessary to give comfort. I am looking forward to being part of a team that already offers such a unique client service.”
Michelle Garlick, partner and head of the Compl-i team at Weightmans LLP said: “I am delighted to welcome Bhavni to the team. She brings with her a wealth of risk management and compliance experience and her appointment further increases the firm’s strength and depth in providing these invaluable services to our law firm clients.”
