Ground risk specialist continues commitment to technical excellence and education with appointment of new Technical Director

Terrafirma are delighted to announce the appointment of experienced engineer and mine treatment specialist Chris Milne, who has been appointed as Technical Director, reflecting Terrafirma’s continued commitment to technical excellence.

Chris is a UK Registered Ground Engineering Adviser, Chartered Civil Engineer and Chartered Geologist with 30 years geotechnical engineering and commercial experience including at senior level in large multi-disciplinary consultancies. Chris will be acting as technical lead by supporting the professional development of the team, assisting the development of existing products and promoting new geotechnical applications. Chris is one of several new team members joining Terrafirma in May 2019, expanding our capacity to support existing products and services and develop new opportunities in the UK and abroad.

Chris has acted as lead mining consultant for many large UK mine treatment schemes, such as the Drake Gardens Lead Mine, Briars Lane Chalk Mines, Highbarns Chalk Mines and for the 2015 British Geotechnical Association Fleming Award-winning Chantry Lane Chalk Mine project.  He was seconded to the Homes and Communities Agency (now Homes England) as a Project Manager to the Land Stabilisation Programme where he had responsibility for overseeing funding for large treatment projects such as the £28M Northwich Salt Mines Scheme. His national level experience in relation to non-coal mineworkings includes contributing to the new CIRIA Abandoned Mineworkings Manual.

Alongside Andrew Wiseman, Mark Hudson and Timothy Farewell, Chris makes up Terrafirma’s Advisory Panel providing consultancy and guidance to the Terrafirma team including the identification of ground instability hazards, site investigations, emerging technologies and the impact of such environmental hazards in the conveyancing and legal markets.
