Ten-strong partner promotions round at Irwin Mitchell

Irwin Mitchell [1] has announced that ten associates from across its legal teams have been appointed to Partner positions in the latest promotion round at the firm.

The appointments are evenly split between its business legal services and personal legal services divisions, with an equal distribution between new male and female partners as well. Three of those promoted began their careers with Irwin Mitchell as trainees.

Announcing the promotions, Irwin Mitchell’s Group Chief Executive said the news reflected the continued importance of its private client teams but also the fast-growing contribution of the firm’s business experts, an area which has seen major investment in recent years.

It is the second year running that the firm has announced double-digit partner promotions, following on from a record round in 2013 when 13 associates were promoted, and builds on a major recruitment programme which has seen more than 30 specialists recruited to Partner-level positions right across the business.

The news also follows on from the recent opening of Irwin Mitchell’s Southampton office and the announcement of further regional expansion, with a new Cambridge office scheduled to open in June.

The five new partners in the firm’s business legal services division include real estate lawyers Christopher Perrin, from the firm’s Manchester office, and London-based Louise Cartwright.

Two employment experts, Christopher Tutton from the London office and Birmingham’s Omer Simjee, are also promoted, with the business legal services quintet completed by Head of Business Development Rosemary Thorpe, also based in London.

Five further promotions come from Irwin Mitchell’s personal legal services division, including Sheffield-based family law specialists Alison Fernandes and Zoe Round, and Court of Protection lawyer Joanne Fraser, who works in Leeds.

Two members of Irwin Mitchell’s personal injury team in Birmingham – travel law expert Amandeep Dhillon and medical negligence specialist Lindsay Tomlinson – complete the personal legal services appointments.

Group Chief Executive Andrew Tucker said: “Every one of our new Partners thoroughly deserves their promotion and I am delighted to see that, yet again, we have been able to reward a significant number of our people in this way.

“These promotions reflect the ability of the individuals and their respective development within IM and also demonstrate our long term investment in our people.

“It is a sign of the strength and breadth of our business that we are able to promote ten or more people to Partner positions for the second year running. One of the strengths of Irwin Mitchell is our diverse offering and this is a further demonstration of that, covering our services to both business and personal clients.”

He continued: “Added to the extensive recruitment we have been undertaking across the business, this again shows the range of experience we have to offer clients at Irwin Mitchell. We are in a very strong position to continue to build our business and deliver our plans for further growth.”

All appointments will be subject to SRA approval and effective from May 1.
