Seddons and DAS Law Assist announce partnership

Seddons, a leading law practice based in London’s West End, has joined up with specialist ATE insurance provider DAS Law Assist [1] to offer after the event (ATE) insurance to its clients.

The new partnership will allow Seddons’ clients to benefit from ATE insurance for most types of civil litigation cases, and is one of the first partnerships of its kind for DAS Law Assist. In addition to the main product covering commercial litigation, separate policies are available for insolvency, clinical negligence and personal injury claims.

ATE insurance protects a solicitor’s client, usually the claimant, when or shortly after they become aware of the need to litigate to protect their interests. The policy covers the client against what could prove to be substantial costs, should the legal action prove unsuccessful.

For general civil litigation disputes, including property litigation, the premium is £2500 plus 17.5% of recovered damages, plus insurance premium tax of 6%. In all cases, payment of the premium is deferred until the conclusion of the case, and is only payable if successful and upon receipt of damages from the opponent, making ATE an attractive and beneficial option for a wide range of clients.

DAS have been a leading provider of ATE insurance since 1999, offering solicitors and intermediaries a range of products.

Marvin Simons, Head of Litigation at Seddons, says:

“We are delighted to now be able to offer after the event insurance with DAS Law Assist as part of our service to clients.

“Despite the changes brought about by the Jackson reforms in April we believe that ATE policies are still beneficial. The DAS scheme is particularly attractive for us as we are able to offer deferred payment on the premium, making protection a viable option for everyone who would benefit from it. We are very much looking forward to working with DAS over the coming months.”

Richard Whale, Sales Manager at DAS Law Assist, comments:

“This is an exciting opportunity and we are extremely pleased to be partnering with Seddons.

“We believe there is a real need for ATE insurance in commercial litigation matters and this partnership will ensure Seddons’ clients not only benefit from their considerable legal expertise but also know the financial burden of pursuing a claim is eased with our ATE insurance products.”
