SOS ConnectA niche family law practice has signed up to integrated practice and case management with SOS Connect from Solicitors Own Software – and praised staff there who have “gone the extra mile” during the transition process.

Based in Caerphilly, Legal Services For Children represents children in care proceedings across south Wales.

Founder and partner Helen Noakes says she contacted SOS around a year ago after becoming increasingly unhappy with her firm’s previous legal software provider.

“Because of the nature of the work we do, we have to be very efficient,” she says.

“We had been with our previous provider for some time but by 2016-17, it had been taken over by a bigger competitor and the system was not meeting our needs.

“We approached SOS in February last year and immediately after signing up to SOS Connect, we noticed a complete contrast. We told them what our requirements were, they tailored the system to meet our needs and we went live in the summer.

“Now the process is complete we are seeing major improvements, in particular with our billing processes, which have become much easier and more responsive.

“The training we’ve received from SOS has been comprehensive and tailored, and their team is always very approachable. The transition was far from straightforward and the SOS team has really gone the extra mile.”

Graham Colbourne, managing director of SOS, said: “As well as full practice law firms, SOS Connect is ideal for specialists such as Legal Services For Children, and the flexibility and agility which it provides makes it the logical choice.”

Making the apprenticeship levy work

Sally Swift

The apprenticeship reforms were introduced to put quality at the forefront of training and skills improvement and to give employers more control over developing their workforce. At Browne Jacobson we have been doing just that. Our existing legal apprentices follow the paralegal standards and our plans for 2018 include recruitment of a further 12 paralegal apprentices in September, together with developing many of our own teams by offering apprenticeships in business administration, first-line management, chartered manager degrees and senior leaders master’s degrees.
