Law firms across Wales are being encouraged to take part in a major research project [2] exploring the future of the Welsh legal sector, as momentum continues to build behind the initiative.
Led by Legal News Wales in partnership with legal software provider Osprey Approach [3], the Welsh Legal Sector Transformation Report 2026 aims to deliver one of the most comprehensive independent snapshots of the profession in Wales to date.

Whilst many law firms across multiple practice areas and regions of Wales have already contributed to the project, the partners behind the report are encouraging further participation to ensure the research reflects the breadth and diversity of the sector.
The research explores key themes including:
- Business confidence and growth
- Recruitment and retention challenges
- Technology adoption and AI readiness
- Client expectations and changing market pressures
- Long-term strategic planning
Emma Waddingham, founder of Legal News Wales and president of Cardiff & District Law Society, said:- “The great response we’ve had so far demonstrates the Welsh legal sector’s strong commitment to collaboration and future planning. With only four weeks remaining before the questionnaire closes, we are keen to hear from as broad a cross-section of the profession as possible to ensure the final report truly reflects the sector.”
The findings will be compiled into the report, with the ambition of establishing an ongoing benchmark study for the profession in Wales.
Amy Bruce, marketing director at Osprey Approach, added:- “This project is designed to give firms a voice at a time of significant change for the legal sector. The more perspectives we capture, the more valuable and representative the final report will be for firms, stakeholders and the wider profession.”
Law firms operating in or serving clients in Wales are invited to complete the anonymous questionnaire before the survey closes on Friday 17 July. It takes less than eight minutes to complete and may be accessed here. [4]
