Middlesex University partners with The College of Legal Practice

The College of Legal Practice 200Middlesex University is pleased to announce a collaboration with The College of Legal Practice to provide SQE preparation training as part of their LLM in Legal Practice.

This innovative Masters programme offers progressive career-focused training to help Middlesex graduates get ahead with their career pathways to become solicitors.

The College of Legal Practice will offer their accredited and high quality virtual teaching in two modules that prepare students for SQE1 and SQE2., the two assessment components of the new SQE pathway to qualification.

The College’s experienced teaching team have taught the LPC, LLB and GDL in many UK Universities and now specialise in delivering the SQE. The College’s wider expert supervisors are nearly all solicitors, and their supervision is grounded in up to date and relevant legal practice. Having helped students prepare for every SQE assessment since its inception, the College’s team understand how to help them succeed in the SQE, particularly through high levels of individual supervision and support.

The flexibility in The College of Legal Practice’s online learning and weekly schedule allows for this LLM in Legal Practice to be uniquely offered across three international Middlesex University law schools, in England, Dubai and Mauritius.

While preparing students to take the SQE exams, this innovative LLM also equips them with those Postgraduate attributes needed to address complex legal issues both systematically and creatively, showing originality in tackling and solving legal problems, through several taught modules, as well as a research project. The tailored curriculum selected enables students to gain advanced knowledge in key areas of legal practice, such as International Commercial Litigation and Arbitration or Comparative Corporate Governance.

Both the knowledge and skills developed through this programme prepare students for practice and make them more attractive to employers. This LLM also supports career progression for those already in legal practice, but not yet qualified, as well as foreign qualified lawyers,  considering the great demand by international law firms for England and Wales qualified solicitors. In addition, as students entering this programme will have the opportunity to sit the external SQE examinations whilst the degree is still ongoing, they will already be in a position of strength to approach law firms in order to secure Qualifying Work Experience, an additional requirement to the SQE examinations to qualify.

Dr Susan Pascoe, Acting Interim Head of Department (Law and Politics), Associate Professor of Law, said:

“It is my pleasure to introduce Middlesex University’s landmark LLM Legal Practice (SQE Pathway) degree. This exciting new programme opens a much-needed pathway for those wishing to qualify in England and Wales as solicitors whilst also obtaining a postgraduate degree in Law in just one year. Middlesex University is proud to bring an innovative and forward-thinking approach to academia and training, collaborating with our strategic partners across the industry to enhance legal understanding, innovation, and expertise across the sector in UK and internationally. The hybrid learning techniques on the LLM Legal Practice, created alongside The College of Legal Practice, ensure that higher education remains flexible and accessible to all.”

CEO of The College of Legal Practice, Dr Giles Proctor said:

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Middlesex University both here in the UK and internationally to offer SQE training to their Masters’ students. This package of practice-based modules combined with SQE preparation will no doubt set Middlesex students apart from their peers and on the way to a successful legal career.”
