Male lawyers playing catch up with female colleagues for reviews

Research carried out by ReviewSolicitors [2] has found that male lawyers are ranking lower than their female colleagues, despite dominating the industry.

ReviewSolicitors, the UK’s largest legal review site, has found that women outrank men in client satisfaction reviews and in the number of reviews received, despite being underrepresented in the industry in partner roles.

Today whilst 64% of newly qualified solicitors are women, just 13.8% of women are in partner roles in law firms across the UK.

Despite this, women are reviewed 30% more than their male and other colleagues.

Women in law also rank higher on average than London firms, with the top female review score was 4.817 out of five whereas regionally London’s rating was 4.7624.

Anna O’Mara from Sills & Betteridge, who has 1261 reviews on the site says:

“It is important for us to collect reviews so we can better understand our clients and improve our clients’ experience. I like to understand what I am doing well and monitor if there are any areas for improvement. It is also helpful to have these reviews available to my clients as they may be reassured before meeting me that I work to a high standard.

“The fact I have a collection of honest reviews from my clients also benefits both my existing clients and any prospective clients. This is because clients can easily search genuine feedback from others about both me and my firm to compare against others in the legal sector, and they are then able to make an informed decision about whether to choose to instruct me.”

Michael Hanney, CEO of ReviewSolicitors said: “You’d think due to the amount of opportunities male lawyers have that their client reviews would be not only higher but more frequent, however the opposite is true.

“The disparity in law isn’t affecting a woman’s ability to deliver great client experiences, showcasing that now more than ever there is a need for equal opportunities in senior law firm roles.”
