The long and the short of it: views from our EU referendum seminar

Saunderson House200 [1]We were fortunate to be joined by a lawyer and an economist as well as more than 200 clients and guests for our referendum seminars held at the London offices of Allen & Overy on 26 May.

The economist, Azad Zangana, focused on the UK’s financial and trade ties with the EU and what the immediate impact of a vote to leave might be on the economy and markets.

The lawyer, Philip Wood CBE QC, gave us the long view, with thoughts on the UK’s historic contribution to the development of the modern world and the EU’s potential future role as a third global super-power.

From the floor we had wide ranging questions, from the likelihood of the EU transitioning into a United States of Europe to the possibility of reduced access to justice if the UK were to leave the EU. This note attempts to draw out some of the key themes.
