Irwin Mitchell serious injury team wins Rehabilitation Award

IM LLP Logo 2015 [1]National law firm Irwin Mitchell [2] has won an award for the seventh year out of eight recognising the work their legal experts do on behalf of people who have suffered serious injuries at the Rehabilitation First Awards.

The market-leading team was recognised because of their work in helping a client who was left with both his arms and legs paralysed as the result of a head on collision with another car that had strayed into his lane, in Eckington, September 2013.

Due to his complicated injuries, Ivan Harris, from South Yorkshire, required high levels of care from a large team of specialists.

A team of serious injury specialists at Irwin Mitchell acted on Ivan’s behalf and worked with insurers to come up with an innovative and creative solution to his unique needs.

When the case settled, Ivan was able to move into a specifically adapted home and received damages. He will continue to receive payments for the rest of his life, to cover the annual costs of his care and therapy.

Rachael Aram, a serious injury partner at Irwin Mitchell, received the award at a ceremony at the Royal Garden Hotel in London, on Friday, hosted by Insurance Post magazine.

Judges were looking for ways in which lawyers overcame obstacles and worked collaboratively to help clients to maximise their recovery.

Rachael said: “This accident turned the lives of Ivan, his wife and his family upside down. The injuries that he suffered were highly complex and the costs of his care needs reflected that.

“Ivan’s case posed difficult questions about how to appropriately compensate his need for accommodation due to current restrictions in the law, however being able to work collaboratively with insurers to create an innovative solution which met and will continue to meet Ivan’s needs was incredibly important.

“We have a strong track record in delivering early access to the best rehabilitation and other specialist support and therapies so that our clients have the best possible chance at improving their quality of life.

“We are immensely proud that our work in helping victims of serious injuries has been recognised once again in the Rehabilitation First Awards.”
