Highly experienced clinical negligence specialist Rosamund Rhodes-Kemp says the ‘fantastic skills and expertise’ at Hudgell Solicitors will ensure the firm increases its presence and profile in the capital.
One of the country’s leading specialists in her field, Mrs Rhodes-Kemp has agreed to head up the firm’s London office after being approached by managing director Neil Hudgell.
And she has described the chance to shape the growth of an emerging new presence in the capital as being too good to refuse.
“This is an exciting opportunity for me and one I was delighted to take on,” said Mrs Rhodes-Kemp, who qualified and worked as a state registered nurse for six years before entering the legal profession.
“The ambition of the firm is very clear, and it is certainly refreshing and exciting to be joining a firm which is investing ambitiously in growing its clinical negligence department, particularly in London, whilst many others have reduced their focus on this important area in recent years.”
Mrs Rhodes-Kemp’s experience in leading legal teams, implementing change and restructuring departments has led to her being a highly-sought after specialist in claimant clinical negligence. Not only has she acted for private clients, but also for Trade Union Membership Organisations.
She is confident the team at Hudgell Solicitors, which has offices in London, Leeds and Hull, has both the skills and vision to continue its recent growth and further enhance its reputation for supporting people with serious and life-changing injuries.
“It’s all very well saying you are going to expand and bring in new people, but that is only possible if you have a good basis to build around, and we certainly have that. There is already a team with a fantastic range of skills and expertise, and that was something which impressed me immediately,” she added.
A specialist in tackling complex cerebral palsy cases, claims involving children, failures in care of the elderly and spinal injury cases, Mrs Rhodes-Kemp has taken a particular interest in representing families at Inquests, leading to her recent appointment as Assistant Coroner at Oxford.
Asked what qualities are needed to meet the ambitious targets of Hudgell Solicitors, Mrs Rhodes-Kemp says remaining at the forefront of both the legal and the medical professions is key.
“There is such a wide range of skills in the team, not only in clinical negligence and personal injury expertise, but also in representing families at Inquests and handling cases of abuse. That makes it so much easier when looking to develop, expand and grow,” she said.
“You also need to have the ability to look at the finer details, weigh up the evidence and any competing evidence and effectively risk assess each and every case.
“You have to fully understand complicated medical evidence and new procedures, as well as the latest legal position. You also need determination, and I am known for my determination to succeed on even the most difficult of cases.
“Most importantly though, you have to deliver for your clients. You need to have empathy, kindness and compassion, as you’ll be judged just as much on that as you are on your final settlements.
“That is what impresses me greatly about Hudgell Solicitors – they are a team that cares and is determined to succeed like I am by putting client care at the forefront of all that we do.”
Neil Hudgell, managing director of Hudgell Solicitors, said: “We are delighted to have Rosamund leading our clinical negligence and personal injury teams in London.
“She has vast experience in building and heading highly successful departments which deliver superb results. It has always been our vision to expand our London operation having moved into the capital two years ago, and with Rosamund now at the helm, leading our highly skilled and experienced team, we are confident of meeting those goals.”
