How the longest US government shutdown in history has impacted the Internal Revenue Service


Title ResearchGovernment shutdowns are somewhat foreign to us Brits as they are uniquely American. Federal government shutdowns occur when the US Congress fails to pass the spending Bill proposed by government agencies and operations.

From the 22nd of December 2018 to the 25th of January 2019, the US government experienced their longest government shutdown in history. The 35-day shutdown has resulted in the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) suffering from a severe backlog.
