Highly-experienced clinical negligence specialist Maria Repanos joins Hudgell Solicitors to lead Manchester Clinical Negligence team

Maria Repanos has joined Hudgell Solicitors as Head of Clinical Negligence in Manchester.

Highly-experienced clinical negligence specialist Maria Repanos has joined Hudgell Solicitors as Head of Clinical Negligence in Manchester.

An accredited member of the Law Society’s Clinical Negligence panel and a ranked lawyer in both the 2023 Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners guides, she joins from Slater & Gordon, where she has run a team of lawyers in Manchester, representing clients across the UK.

During a career which has spanned more than 18 years, including working for Irwin Mitchell Solicitors and Fletchers Solicitors, she has led cases relating to birth injuries, spinal injuries, amputations, orthopaedic injuries, surgical negligence and delays in diagnosis of cancer, securing many high value catastrophic settlements.

She has experience of managing a team of lawyers alongside running her own large caseload of catastrophic injury claims, something she’ll again be tasked within her new role at Hudgells, where she will lead a growing team working from offices in St Peter’s Square, Manchester.

Appointment will support department growth

Rachel Di Clemente, chief executive of Hudgell Solicitors, says she is delighted to have recruited Maria to lead the firm’s clinical negligence work in the North West.

“We’re thrilled to have appointed Maria to lead the work and continued growth of our Manchester clinical negligence team. We already have some very talented and experienced members of the team in Manchester, and Maria adds a wealth of experience in catastrophic injury work,” she said.

“Most importantly, Maria shares our values in terms of having a reputation for always making her clients her primary focus, for not being shy of a challenge and for having a passion for developing the people around her. It is an approach which has been recognised in the leading legal guides, and in the reviews of her clients.

“We’ve grown our team in Manchester steadily over recent years and are confident that, under Maria’s direct leadership, the development of that team will continue to go from strength to strength. She is a lawyer of high-standing and experience and we are confident she’ll make a hugely positive impact.”

“At Hudgells we are a team who are fiercely committed to our clients and it has taken some time to find someone who we are confident shares the same values and commitment to clients that we expect.

Maria will join Chris Moore and Vince Shore, both based in Hull, to lead our Clinical Negligence team forwards. ”

Passion for passing on knowledge and skills

For Ms Repanos, the chance to join a firm which has established a solid reputation for its work in the North West in recent years, and has opportunity for further growth, was extremely attractive.

“This is a really exciting opportunity for me and I am thrilled to have been given the responsibility of leading and further developing what is already an excellent team in Manchester,” she said.

“I’m passionate about representing clients and ensuring that I work collaboratively with them so that their cases are led in the way they want within the remit of the legal process.

“Clients and their loved ones often have very specific goals about what they want to achieve from taking legal action, so you have to understand that and meet the client’s needs whilst still working in conjunction with the legal process. I make that a priority.

“In my role at Hudgells I will be heading up the future development of the Manchester team. I am really passionate about senior, experienced solicitors passing on their skills and knowledge to junior lawyers, so to do that in addition to running my own cases will be very rewarding.

“I’ve been following the progress of Hudgells over the last few years and I have seen the great work the firm has done, particularly in Manchester and in supporting victims of the Manchester Arena attack.

“It’s a great firm which has an excellent reputation for client care, particularly in clinical negligence and personal injury. I am thrilled to be joining.”

Ms Repanos has been a trustee of Supportability, which provides support to young people and adults with a range of complex physical and learning disabilities, for approximately 15 years.

She has also recently been asked to join the board of trustees for Stockport Women’s Centre, who offer a full range of services to women.
