Think about how much paper you use in a day. I’m guessing it’s a lot.

You have all manner of legal documents to be printed. Bundles, contracts, forms, the list goes on. But do you ever consider the effect that all this printing has on the planet? That sheet by sheet, you contribute a tiny bit towards the Earth’s (or at least humanity’s) destruction?

Now this may sound a bit melodramatic, but it’s a harsh truth that paper usage has a seriously damaging effect on the environment and contributes towards climate change.

The pulp and paper industry is the fourth largest consumer of energy in the world, emitting a considerable amount of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Add to that the deforestation to source the wood to create the paper and you have fewer trees to remove the added CO2 from the air. All in all, it doesn’t make for a healthy planet.

Now, obviously, it isn’t just the legal sector that is to blame for all of this paper usage, but it is a significant contributor. So, what can you do?

Many firms are now moving towards a paper-lite office (i.e. using as little paper as possible) and this is an idea that is becoming more and more feasible as new systems become available. We will be discussing the issue in our webinar, showing you how you can work to become paper-lite, on 5th July.
