Damar strengthens apprenticeship offer to legal sector with two further appointments

Specialist legal apprenticeship provider Damar Training [1] has appointed two further legal trainers to its team extending its training services into Yorkshire.

Steven Sutherland joins from Sheffield law firm Simpson Sissons & Brooke LLP where he had a dual role as training manager and solicitor.

Steven has 25 years’ experience as a practitioner across a range of areas and has particular expertise in property law and personal injury matters. He has designed and delivered soft skills and technical legal training to staff at all levels within the legal sector. Steven, who lives in Rotherham, will be working with apprentices based at law firms and in-house legal teams across the North and Midlands.

Meanwhile, Natalie Jones is moving into a training role after eight years’ experience as a personal injury fee-earner, in particular at Asons in Bolton and Nesbit Law Group in Bury. The appointments take Damar’s training team to 22.

Damar’s managing director Jonathan Bourne said: “I am delighted to welcome Steven and Natalie to our team. Their experience further strengthens our offer to the legal sector and broadens our national reach. We are now working with law firms and legal apprentices from Newcastle to Bristol and I am pleased to say that interest is increasing, particularly from growing firms that are embracing new and innovative ways of delivering legal services.

“These appointments and the further appointments that we will be making in the coming months, coupled with the significant investment that we are making in e-learning, allow us to provide an unrivalled offer to law firms nationally. We can help firms recruit and train apprentices across a range of roles and can offer an apprenticeship pathway for prospective paralegals that goes from legal administrator right up to qualified technician.”

Leeds and Sheffield-based Lupton Fawcett Lee and Priestley is one of the latest firms to announce a legal apprenticeship programme.

Richard Marshall, managing director, said of the programme: “Legal apprenticeships are part of a whole new business model. Offering young people an opportunity to train in this way gets them into rewarding, interesting work and enables us to develop our staff from the start; embedding the special values and commitment our lawyers have. It also means they will be trained in a practical business environment so they can quickly develop their potential.”
