Jonathan Rees, new Chair of CILEx Regulation
Jonathan Rees has been appointed Chair of CILEx Regulation (CRL), the independent regulator of CILEX members, firms and specialist lawyers authorised for independent practice.
Jonathan will oversee the work of CRL as it embarks on a new three-year strategy, working alongside existing Board members Alice Belcher, Nick Hanning and Andrew Donovan. He will officially take up his post as Chair of the Board on 1 September 2021.
Jonathan said:
“I am delighted to have been appointed as Chair. In my short time as a Lay Director on the Board, I have already been hugely impressed by the commitment and expertise of Board colleagues and the executive team, and our focus on constantly providing a better service to those we regulate.
I am joining at an exciting time in CRL’s development as we work on a new three-year strategy, seek to improve outcomes for consumers, and help reshape legal services better to meet society’s needs. I am particularly committed to championing equality, diversity and inclusion both for those who work in the sector and for consumers of legal services. I want to uphold high standards while pursuing innovative models to improve access and minimise the regulatory burden. I also look forward to working in partnership with CILEX, fellow regulators, the Legal Services Consumer Panel and many others – it is only by pooling resources and expertise that we can deliver fairer outcomes and better services for all.
Finally, may I pay tribute to the current Chair, Sam Younger, under whose wise and determined leadership CRL has made huge progress in the last six years.”
