The College of Legal Practice 200By Legal Futures Associate The College of Legal Practice

When it comes to your education, you want a partner with experience. Learning modules that align to your needs. And tutors with relevant legal expertise – who have the scars and stories to show it.

We’ve been distilling industry insights for Australasia’s leading lawyers for five decades. Now, we’re bringing our proven learning programmes to help UK legal professionals thrive.

The origins of our 50-year heritage

Although only recently established as its own entity, The College of Legal Practice has a rich heritage in legal education. In fact, our parent organisation, The College of Law in Australia, is the leading postgraduate law school in Australia and New Zealand, supporting over 5,000 graduates – each and every year.

Founded in 1974, The College of Law is Australasia’s most trusted name in legal training. As a not-for-profit organisation, it reinvests its profits back into student education to provide the best programmes possible.

Now, after five decades of preparing budding lawyers for practice excellence Down Under, the organisation is helping the next generation of lawyers in the UK.

Enriching legal education – and making it accessible for all

The College of Law was born out of a pressing need to rethink legal education in Australasia. There was – and remains – a gap between what students learn in law school and what they were expected to practise as lawyers.

A smarter approach was needed to prepare students for complex real-life scenarios in the legal world. By focusing on this challenge from day one, The College of Law quickly rose to become the largest provider of practice-focused legal education in Australasia.

And long before the disruptions of the past two years, The College of Law has been at the forefront of digital learning. For two decades it’s designed, tested and optimised virtual learning to deliver courses that are truly engaging.

The focus on virtual learning and the practical side of law are part of The College of Law’s DNA. And, like our parent company, The College of Legal Practice’s culture is committed to offering students the best learning experience possible – wherever possible.

An opportunity to support UK students and professionals

In 2019, the Solicitors Regulation Authority announced that English and Welsh law students would need to complete a new Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE). The exam seeks to boost access into the profession through increasing training options and reducing costs to qualify.

Likewise, real-world legal training is needed, now more than ever, to equip legal professionals at all stages of their career to succeed in our complex legal environment.

So in 2019, The College of Legal Practice was established to offer flexible learning opportunities at competitive prices.

We’re creating compelling courses that meet the needs of students, organisations and universities. Our first SQE preparation courses are now live.

And we’re continuing to expand our offering to provide the same breadth and depth we’ve been offering students on the other side of the world for half a century.

Why choose The College of Legal Practice?

We’re changing the status quo by designing legal courses around real people – around you. Your organisation’s needs, your circumstances and your aspirations.
