Terrafirma: Landslides

Terrafirma are excited to bring you UK Ground Hazards: The Risks You Need to Know.

About this Event

Episode 4 – Landslides

As with most natural ground conditions, landslides are generally only considered a risk when they threaten property, land, infrastructure and human health. Despite the UK being considered a low-risk environment [1] with relatively small failures and few fatalities when compared with other parts of the world, this complex hazard demands attention due to its destructive nature and potential to be triggered by extreme weather events. [2] Financial losses from landslides are poorly understood but likely to be in excess of £10 million per year. [1]

In this 20-minute episode, experienced slope stability engineering specialist Chris Milne, with over 30 years experience of dealing with ground stability issues, will take you through the different types and scales of landslips, some well-known and not-so-well-known landslip examples and discusses how this hazard represents a risk to property.
