Estate Research: Scots Law Private Client Conference – Glasgow

After the success of our 2022 and Spring 2023 events, we are hosting two more conferences for 2023 – one in Edinburgh and one in Glasgow, with both conferences bringing together leading legal experts in Scots law to reflect on the challenges and updates in Estate Administration. We hope each event will be an opportunity to maximise learning – offering 6 hours of face-to-face CPD training.

As well as training talks delivered by the speakers, the event will also host an “Ask the Experts” panel session, where delegates can put their questions to the conference speakers.
A buffet lunch and refreshments throughout the day will be provided at both venues. These events will prove very popular and places are limited so be sure to register early to avoid disappointment.

Alan Eccles (BKF) – Kaye’s executor: The case with a little bit of everything

This session will use the recent case of Kaye’s executor to cover a range of key private client topics.  The case offered a veritable smorgasbord of estate planning issues.   From inheritance tax, charities, duties of and decision-making by attorneys, deeds of variation, power of attorney drafting and construction, intervention orders in estate planning and remedies in private client cases.  The case also featured the apparent curious case of the double court citation.         

Dominic Hendry (Estate Research) – Horror Stories from Executry cases in Scotland

Dominic Hendry, Head of Private Client at Estate Research retells some of his executry horror stories and advises practitioners on how they can avoid the same mistakes. Through examples and case studies, practitioners will learn common misconceptions and errors within estate matters which in turn will help them minimise or eliminate risks in testate and intestate cases.
