Legal Futures Associates SIFA and 360 Legal Group will be holding a series of roadshows around the UK during January and February 2012.

The roadshows will look at the importance of management systems and controls as not only the key to compliance with Outcomes Focused Regulation but also deliving competitive advantage in the post-Legal Services Act environment. Quality accreditations are not the whole answer and COLP and COFA bear only part of the responsibility. Firms also need to set about differentiating their client proposition. Sessions will discuss:

  • The opportunities and implications for your firm of the arrival of private equity in the legal marketplace
  • The practicalities of Outcomes Focused Regulation and the role of COLP and COFA
  • Business models for the future and the role of the trusted adviser

The roadshows are accredited for 2 hours of Law Society CPD and cost £50 (incl VAT) per delegate. For full details of the programme, venue and dates download the brochure:  SIFA roadshows. To book visit www.sifa-centre.info

Rating lawyers by their wins and losses – a good idea?

Robert Ambrogi

Lawyers will give you any number of reasons why their win-loss rates in court are not accurate reflections of their legal skills. Yet a growing number of companies are evaluating lawyers by this standard – compiling and analysing lawyers’ litigation track records to help consumers and businesses make more-informed hiring decisions. The shortcomings of evaluating lawyers by win rates are many. Not least of them is that so few cases ever make it to a win or loss. Of equal concern is that, in the nuances of law practice, it is not always obvious what constitutes a win or a loss.
