Briggs: customers taken through “intelligent and informative” questions

The Law Superstore, a new legal services comparison website which will offer consumers lists of approved law firms, is to be launched next spring by the former chief executive of Minister Law and Brilliant Law.

Matthew Briggs, chief executive of The Law Superstore, said the site would be “the first genuine legal services comparison website” to operate in the same way as GoCompare and moneysupermarket.com.

The website is owned by Winn Holding Limited, the parent company of Winn Solicitors, and has private equity investment from JZI and Souter Investments.

Mr Briggs said The Law Superstore would “take customers on a journey signposted by intelligent and informative questions which will present them with the product they want – a list of law firms that can offer the service”.

The website is set to launch to consumer in March 2016, but is already recruiting law firms as ‘partners’ to feature on the site. The site will cover all the main areas of consumer law together with services for SMEs, such as corporate, commercial property and employment.

“The site allows firms to tap into a nationwide pool of people and SMEs who are ready to instruct a legal expert and, having used the search engine on our platform, can be confident they have found the right provider to use according to their specific criteria,” Mr Briggs said.

“Whilst word of mouth and personal recommendations will never be fully replaced, more and more people buy services through online platforms, which has led to greater competition amongst lawyers for visibility online.

“The Law Superstore aims to sit alongside existing marketing activity to provide cost-effective and intelligent marketing that generates well-matched and pre-qualified leads that can be fully measured, as part of a modern approach to assessing marketing campaign effectiveness and return on investment.”

Mr Briggs said law firms would not be initially charged to feature on the site. Instead they would be charged for every customer referred to them.

A spokeswoman for The Law Superstore added: “The Law Superstore is a completely autonomous business and has no day to day links with Winn Solicitors. If Winn Solicitors applies to The Law Superstore to market its services it will be subject to the same strict due diligence and criteria ratings as all other [law firm] partners.”

The spokeswoman said Jeff Winn, founder of Winn Solicitors had acted as adviser in developing the website.

“His vision and wealth of experience in marketing legal services has been instrumental in the concept of The Law Superstore, but he has no operational involvement in the business.”
