Their PI department deals with a range of cases from Road Traffic Accidents to Accidents at Work while the other teams cover Aeroplane Delay claims and Payment Protection Insurance.  The firm was set up in 2015 and boasts a rapid staff growth, having grown from one to 12 users in no more than four months.

‘’Reputation means the world to us’’ explains Mark Gough, the Legal Director of Wisemann Law. ‘’We are a customer-focused firm, and therefore we offer a friendly and proactive service to our clients. Right from the get-go, we’ve realised that providing a sterling service and being profitable at the same time would be impossible without the right case management software in place.  Having seen DPS’s case management system a few years ago, I contacted them as soon as I set up the practice.’’

Their decision to sign up with DPS Software was reinforced by the endorsement of one of DPS’s existing clients ‘’DPS’s reputation for after-sale service tipped the balance. Client care was of paramount importance to us just as it is and has always been to our clients. As a newly established firm, we wanted to be supported every step of the way and I am glad to say that we have not been disappointed’’ said Mark. ‘’If something goes wrong, help is only one phone call away.’’

’The functionalities of the practice management system were, of course, important’’ explains Mark. As a Legal Director, Mark wanted to monitor the progress of the firm’s open files. One of the comprehensive reports available in Financial Director, DPS’s legal accounting software, makes this data readily available.

‘’The integration between the legal accounting and case management software means that fee earners can see what money is outstanding on a file, whether payments have come in or not and so whether they can continue work or need to ask the client to send more funds.’’ explains Mark. ‘’They have this information at hand, and don’t need the Cashiers to tell them what each client’s financial position is for each matter. They have access to this very important information themselves.’’

Wisemann Law have gone hosted with DPS from the start. One of the benefits of dpscloud was the low set-up cost. ‘’Buying servers and then having to upgrade plus buying more disk space would have been expensive. By limiting our IT expenditure, we could use our finances to grow the firm from one to 12 users in only four months. ’’ concluded Wisemann Law’s Legal Director.

Joint (ad)ventures in the legal sector

Nigel Wallis lo res

We all know that nothing in life is certain. As the actor, director and philosopher Clint Eastwood once said: “If you want a guarantee, buy a toaster.” He also said he’d tried being reasonable and didn’t like it. They should teach this kind of philosophy in law school. One thing in life is reasonably certain though. If you’re a law firm worth your salt, at some point you will be approached by another entity (most probably a work introducer) with a whizzy idea to ‘partner’ with you to ‘help you accelerate your growth’. In commercial speak this means, ‘we’d like to keep feeding you work but we’d also like to share in your profits’. The arrangement may be pitched to you as a joint venture – a win-win no less.
