Few events have as great an effect on the homebuying public as a general election and with the next one just around the corner this year’s Real Estate Symposium Dinner, facilitated by Search Acumen [2], will be focussing on what the outcome could mean for property professionals.

It is widely believed that floating voters, forced to rent as they cannot afford to buy, could dramatically affect the election outcome and we are likely to see fierce fighting for their attention. With planning and housing portfolios now held by a single Minister what hope is there for better policy and increased development? What will be the fate of Help to Buy and the Affordable Homes programme? How might those of us that work in this sector be affected by the winning party? There is much to consider.
On hand to start the discussion two key speakers will share their view of the key issues before opening it up to the floor. Kevin Hollinrake, recently selected as Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Thirsk & Malton, has lived and worked in property for most of his life. In 1992 he jointly started Hunters, which is now one of the most successful and fastest-growing estate agencies in the UK with 140 branches nationwide. Kevin is well placed to deliberate whether conveyancers and agents could work more closely as well as the how the party sees the property market developing.
Michael Cross is a veteran journalist, broadcaster and free data campaigner. He is currently news editor at the Law Society Gazette. Acknowledged by colleagues for his ‘dogged determination to report rigorously, accurately and fairly’ Michael is sure to have some thought provoking views on the major issues facing the property market and how a new government may seek to deal with them.
The Real Estate Symposium Dinner, chaired by Mark Riddick and facilitated by Search Acumen is being held at Marriott County Hall, London, on 18th September.
