SOS200Midlands law firm Roythornes Solicitors has adopted SOS Connect from Solicitors Own Software (SOS) as part of the firm’s strategy for growth.

Roythornes had already been using SOS’s finance software for several years when, following a review of IT systems, the firm recognised it needed a more fully integrated system in order to help the firm move forward.

Roythornes, which has around 160 staff at offices in Spalding, Peterborough, Nottingham and Newmarket, had been using a third party product for case and matter management integrated with SOS accounts. Now however the firm has rolled out SOS Connect throughout, following successful trials of the system.

“Roythornes had used a third party case management system for ten or more years and the system had served the firm well. However when looking to the future, the appeal of a single platform for practice management, case and matter management with fully integrated document/email management and CRM was compelling, not least because SOS Connect is based upon our existing practice management system. This fact significantly mitigated against risks and costs associated with wholesale platform change,” says Jonathan Swan, operations and IT director at Roythornes Solicitors.

“Roythornes has already saved significant amounts of fee earner and support staff time as a result of the change – and the system is helping enable the firm progress efficiency and productivity improvements by becoming a ‘less paper’ firm. SOS Connect is also really enabling our mobility and flexibility agenda.

“The system has been deployed quickly and without the fuss and bother typically associated with IT migrations. The fresh and intuitive interface has been popular with users and the development environment every bit as extensive as our previous system.

“SOS has retained a good understanding of its market sector and through product development remain responsive to our needs and wants. Account management and support are excellent and it is clear that right from the top down, the people at SOS really know the product inside out and demonstrate a ‘can do’ attitude towards client service.”

David McNamara, managing director at SOS, said: “Roythornes Solicitors’ smooth migration to SOS Connect after many years using our finance system illustrates the real value of a long-term, client-supplier relationship. This project will allow the firm to now operate a single PMS/CMS solution across the entire firm to achieve a fully streamlined and efficient operation.

“This in turn will stand the firm in good stead as it embarks on the next phase of its planned growth.”

The LSB’s proposals for legislative reform: let’s be clear

Caroline Wallace LSB

The publication of the Legal Services Board’s vision for legislative reform of legal services regulation on 12 September has generated a healthy level of interest and debate. This can, on the surface, seem a somewhat dry subject. However, it has an impact not just on existing regulated practitioners, but also on providers of legal services more generally, as well as everyone who uses or benefits from an effective legal sector. And, let’s face it, that’s all of us.
