PrintLegal workflow specialist Ochresoft is promising a new approach to will-writing management that goes beyond Will-drafting software, with the launch of its new Intelliworks Wills product.

It is the first product to manage the entire process end-to-end and with such granularity, from the initial client meeting to the complete and executed will.

Wills handles key questions such as testamentary capacity, undue influence, even access requirements, to generate a comprehensive audit trail to protect both practitioners and their clients’ wishes from future claims and challenges.

Wills is the first software to balance automatic drafting with clause-by-clause tailoring; it delivers a premium will product and service at a significantly lower cost.

Wills generates a complete will from the will builder workflow and detailed Client-facing questionnaire. Customising each document to suit an individual’s requirements is easy with the inclusion of ready-made clauses such as flexible trusts of residue and property trusts. Wills identifies and suggests additional clauses – for example contemplation of marriage and a comprehensive selection of administrative provisions. It exceeds the requirements of the Law Society’s Lexcel and WIQS protocols. All STEP Standard Provisions are accommodated by default and firms have the option to opt-out if they wish.

Intelliworks is written by lawyers for lawyers: every clause in Wills has been drafted by experienced lawyers and approved by counsel.

Pauline Freegard, business development director of Ochresoft, says

“We know that some 16% of Professional Indemnity claims against private client teams arise because of poor will drafting services (Lockton Companies LLP, January 2015). Intelliworks Wills is about giving law firms the means to provide the quickest, most cost-effective way to deliver first-class wills at a competitive price. Wills ensures that nothing can be forgotten and that all matters are handled consistently, with complete visibility across all matters with comprehensive audit trails. In short, Wills is absorbing the efficiency, compliance and risk management burden inherent in will-writing, leaving lawyers more time to focus on client relationships or delivering higher value services.”

GDPR and the rise of ‘datanapping’ – the new threat to the pockets of law firms

Nigel Wright

You’ve heard about ransomware – a hacker infiltrates your IT systems, locking them down until you pay a ransom. Some studies now estimate that over 50% of businesses have experienced this type of attack in the last year, and it’s particularly prevalent within the legal sector. Previously, firms could protect themselves by having a solid disaster recovery plan in place to ensure they can get back up and running in the event of a disruption. However, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) – the new EU-wide regime which comes in effect on 25 May 2018, irrespective of Brexit – means that this approach alone is no longer adequate and security measures must be strengthened to prevent attacks.
