LexisNexis launches prestigious Halsbury Legal Awards

LexisNexis has launched the first ever Halsbury Legal Awards. These awards have been established to recognise and celebrate the value that people in law bring to society. The inaugural award ceremony will be held in 2013.

There are 15 categories marking the achievements of individuals, firms, chambers and other organisations, for their professional practice, writing and comment, academic contribution, the development of talent and innovation, whose expertise has made a contribution to the law and to the law’s place in that wider community.

Christian Fleck, LexisNexis UK managing director, said: “In economic times, which have been as challenging as many in the law can remember, and at a point of unprecedented change in the evolution of the legal world, it is especially important to remind ourselves, our customers and the rest of society of the vital place the law occupies.

“Much more than a necessary evil, the law can be a powerful force for good – socially, ethically and economically. We want the awards to acknowledge this as part of our commitment to upholding the rule of law.”

The theme of the awards is ‘The whole of the law. Connected’. The awards will be supporting the Access to Justice Foundation and the National Pro Bono Centre. The judges are representative of the profession and include the president of the Law Society, Lucy Scott-Moncrieff, and the chairman-elect of the Bar Council, Maura McGowan.

Mr Fleck added: “The people and bodies that work in and around the law can and do make a massive contribution to the strength and stability of society, and we are delighted to launch these awards which celebrate that contribution. Our central theme, the renowned Halsbury name denoting breadth and authority, and the nature of the charity partners we are proud to support, together endorse that overall view of the law and its value.”

Entries must be submitted by 25 January 2013. The shortlist will be announced at the end of February, and winners will be announced at a black tie dinner on 8 May 2013 at the Lancaster Hotel in London.
