[1]Cambridge Judge Business School, Executive Education (www.jbs.cam.ac.uk [2]) and LexisNexis UK [3] (www.lexisnexis.co.uk [4]), today announced a partnership to create a publication to mark the achievements of women in law. The aim of the publication is to share the stories of women who are making an impact within their firms, inspiring junior women lawyers and promote role models in the sector.
The publication, to be released yearly, will feature profiles of leading women in the sector. It will detail their journeys to top positions and the challenges they have faced and overcome, and offer advice to aspiring future women leaders.
In 2014, Cambridge Judge Business School launched the Women in Law Leadership programme which welcomed female partners from many top city law firms. The programme gave participants an opportunity to focus on strategy and leadership to equip them to meet the challenges of today’s law firm partner role.
Edward Bird, director of marketing at LexisNexis UK, said: “They might be role models for junior women lawyers, or they might have made an outstanding contribution to their practice area; we believe it’s the right time to capture these stories and promote these inspiring women who are often succeeding against the odds. We are delighted that Cambridge Judge have selected LexisNexis to partner with on this project and are looking forward to telling these inspirational stories.”
Fiona Rice, programme director of the Women in Law Leadership Programme at Cambridge Judge, said: “Over the last year or so, many firms including several magic circle firms have announced brave targets to reach 20% or more women at partner and senior executive position within the next few years. The gender debate continues to be a high profile one with law firms sometimes struggling to retain women and promote them to senior positions. We hope that this publication will lead to positive change and support women in law in continuing to drive forward diversity and success for the legal profession.”
The publication will be released in September 2015. Nominations can be sent on behalf of any woman working in a law firm whether based in the UK or overseas. Nominations should be submitted by 9th April 2015 to s.lyons@jbs.cam.ac.uk [5]
