‘Use of social media and networking by solicitors’ is a new free webinar available on YouTube from the Core Legal team.  The 34-minute webinar explains how social media and networking can help solicitors and law firms, plus there are useful tips on how to get the best out of these tools. Access to the webinar is free at:
www.youtube.com/corelegal

Core Legal research found that over half of solicitors are on LinkedIn but no other social media tool is used by a majority.  Also, solicitors are mainly re-active users rather than pro-active users. In other words, they are more likely to be looking at content on these sites rather than adding content (

After a brief review of the above research, the webinar has three presentations:

  • Advice on developing a marketing plan and campaign for social media
  • Practical tips on how to use YouTube
  • Tips on using LinkedIn more effectively

The skills shortage in law firms is the biggest threat to handling cybercrime

CLC Roundtable discussion at Malmaison Hotel, Charterhouse Square

The skills shortage in our businesses is the biggest threat to our industry when looking at cybercrime. Cybercriminals are not just after money but are looking for sensitive information too, so the legal services sector is an obvious target. In the last year we have had reports of around £7m of client money being lost to such crime. This is not an IT issue and it should not be left to the IT teams to sort out. It is a high-level responsibility and a board-level issue that must be taken seriously. We suspect that we will look back on 2016 and ask why we didn’t respond quicker.
