DPS200Crabtree Law are a team of ambitious, successful property litigation solicitors based in London and specialising in leasehold reform and debt recovery. They formed as an ABS in 2012 and have achieved considerable growth in the past 12 months, more than doubling the number of their staff, and winning awards including the highly commended” solicitor of the year at the Enfranchisement and Right to Manage Awards 2014.

When setting up, the idea of a paperless office appealed to James Naylor, one of Crabtree’s partners. He wanted to digitise files and simplify processes in an effort to make the newly-established business efficient and completely streamlined. He wanted his staff to be able to work from anywhere, home or office so that he could retain and recruit staff that needed flexible working and meet client’s needs.

James understood that a successful IT infrastructure that needed minimum management input from him was essential to the business. In effect, he wanted to get on and run the business and not become an IT manager. He wanted to focus on the core functions of his business and let someone else provide the IT, disaster recovery and business continuity.

After looking at many solutions, James chose , and the DPS . The case management system was completely embedded into Outlook, a system that he and his staff were already familiar with, making the product highly intuitive to use. The automated costing made the accounts and time recording, normally a chore, simple. Choosing to use DPSCloud meant that he was using a cloud provider that already hosted over 100 legal businesses large and small and that knew their software inside out.

A year after the implementation, the system is paying dividends. The significant business growth gave no IT issues as their systems simply grew with them.

The simple deployment of case, accounts and IT in the cloud all combined with ‘anywhere working’ was a winning combination. Their rapid take up of the system confirmed he had chosen well and convinced him that this is the best IT solution for the SME business.

“As a new ABS, we’ve realised that in order for the business to run smoothly we needed the right technology in place. The fact that all our software solutions were provided and managed by one company made things easier for us, as there is one point of call for all IT-related matters which means that problems are quicker and easier to solve”, explained James Naylor.

Led by a young and energetic team of partners, Crabtree are on the path to innovation and success both for them and for their clients.

Scott Ridley, head of IT at DPS Software shared his thoughts on their client’s achievements: “Our clients’ success is ultimately our success as we endeavour to offer them the IT solutions they need to unwrap their potential and grow. When we see them prosper, we know that we have attained our purpose and we can’t but applaud Crabtree Law for their numerous accomplishments”.

The importance of being expert

I recently sat on a panel debate in Manchester, with the debate entitled – ATE insurers and sub-£250k claims. Whilst the title of the debate was probably written ahead of the government’s consultation paper to introducing fixed recoverable costs in lower-value clinical negligence claims, where £25,000 rather than £250,000 is being recommended, it nevertheless raised an interesting point on how after-the-event insurers can make premiums proportionate to damages, especially for cases worth less than £25,000.
